Police are still seeking information regarding a deadly hit-and-run in the area of the 900 block of West Darlington Street on May 2

Family members were shocked when they heard Donnie Cornelius Boyd, 45, was struck by a vehicle and now they want answers from the person behind the wheel.

“Donnie was always outgoing, energetic, and a people person. Everybody knew him and he was just full of life,” said sister Bernetra Boyd.

Boyd, succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours on Monday.

“I didn’t realize it was serious as it was until I got to the scene. When I arrived, I spoke with police and that’s when I realized it was more than what was told to me,” said Boyd.

Officers learned that a dark sedan, traveling west on Darlington Street, struck the victim and left the scene.

“You just don’t hit someone and keep going, like they’re nothing. We’re getting ready to bury our brother in a few days and whoever this person is they’re still out there,” said Boyd.

Donnie Boyd will be laid to rest on Sunday. This incident is under investigation and no further information is available at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florence Police Department at 843-665-3191.
