SHANNON, NC (WBTW) – An argument over loud music resulted in a deadly shooting in Robeson County early Sunday morning.

Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealey says deputies were called to Charlie Drive and Rennert Road around 2:29 a.m. Sunday for reports of a shooting. When deputies arrived they found one person shot.

Through the investigation, it was discovered that two neighbors got into an argument over loud music playing at the Cousins Mobile Home Park. The neighbors began arguing near the intersection of Charlie Drive and Rennert Road leading to gunshots being exchanged.

Sheriff Sealey says the two involved were Dakota Hunt, 18, of Red Springs, and Scott Chavis, 47, of Shannon. Both men were shot and died in the exchange. Chavis died at the scene and Hunt died while being taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, confirms Sheriff Sealey.

During the argument, a 21-year-old man, later identified as Jody Hunt – Dakota Hunt’s brother – ran over to the two men and was also shot. Sheriff Sealey confirms that Jody Hunt also fired a gun during the exchange.

Jody Hunt was admitted to Southeastern Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

This case is pending further investigation at this time. Anyone with information in reference to this case is asked to contact the Homicide Division of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at 910.671.3100.
