CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The city of Charleston may issue a formal apology for slavery.

On Tuesday, city council members are scheduled to consider a resolution recognizing, denouncing, and apologizing for the city’s role in regulating, supporting, and fostering slavery.

According to the National Park Service, about 40-percent of African slaves entered the U.S. through Charleston.

The full text of the proposed apology has not yet been released.
