MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – The Ravenel Bridge in Charleston County, South Carolina, reopened to traffic Saturday afternoon after it was closed for several hours because of a suspicious package.

Multiple agencies, including bomb squad, responded to the bridge after receiving a call regarding what authorities called a suspicious package underneath the bridge around 11:20 a.m.

Officials worked to clear the pedestrian walkway of the bridge and shut down both north and southbound lanes for several hours Saturday while they investigated the scene.

A source later confirmed to News 2 that what appeared to be a liposuction machine was found under the bridge near Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.

After performing an x-ray of the machine, bomb squad deemed the package safe and the Ravenel Bridge reopened shortly after 2:00 p.m.
