Inmate escaped custody while at Georgetown hospital

GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – Deputies have captured an inmate who escaped from a Georgetown hospital.

Deputies arrested Vernon O’Brian Swails, 30, of Georgetown, at about 11:20 a.m. on Friday after a manhunt that included the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgetown Police Department, according to officials.

Swails had escaped custody while being treated at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital on Friday morning, according to the sheriff’s office. He was wearing blue jeans and no shoes. 

He was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for criminal domestic violence on Thursday.
