Laurinburg homes evacuated, device determined to be non-explosive

LAURINBURG, NC (WBTW) – About 10 homes were evacuated on North Main Street early Thursday while a bomb squad investigated a suspicious device.

Laurinburg Police received a call at about 4 a.m. about a suspicious device on the side of the road. The homes were evacuated as a precaution, police said.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad also responded, and officials determined the device was “non-explosive”.

Residents returned to their homes shortly after.

The investigation is ongoing.
