GREENVILLE – A recent report from move.org ranks South Carolina as the 2nd loneliest state in the country this Valentine’s Day.
The website analyzed census data on unmarried people aged 20 and older in each state and put together a “loneliness index” based on data from Google. For example, the search terms “I’m lonely” and “Anti Valentine’s Day” received a score of one, while “romantic” search terms such as “date ideas” and “romantic getaways” received a score of three.
Washington D.C. took the first place spot for loneliest with a population that is 70 percent single, according to the website. In South Carolina, nearly 49 percent of residents 20 and older are unmarried.
Most people 7 News spoke with in downtown Greenville Wednesday night said they don’t see it as a lonely place.
“The southern hospitality….everybody’s wonderful,” said Greenville Resident Jim Charbonneau.
