SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — The Scotland County sheriff has identified a couple who died Sunday in what he called a murder-suicide.

Mark Schenck, 80, and his wife, Bonnie Schenck, 77, died in the shooting in the Deercroft community, Sheriff Ralph Kersey said Sunday evening in a Facebook post. No other information about the shooting was released.

“I considered them both as friends and I know many in the community felt the same way,” Kersey said in the post. “The incident only involved these two. Please keep the family and friends in your prayers.”

The Scotland County Investigation Division and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded to the shooting. Count on News13 for updates.
