Suspect shot by employee during attempted robbery at North Carolina Family Dollar, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — Police are investigating after a store clerk shot a person during an attempted robbery at a Family Dollar store, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release.

Police responded at 5:07 p.m. Thursday to a reported armed robbery at the Family Dollar store in the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. That’s where police said a suspect tried to rob the store and was shot in the leg by an employee.

Police brought in a K-9 to help search for the suspect. No other injuries were reported.

Winston-Salem police have asked for the public’s help with the case. The police department’s Text-A-Tip Program at 336-276-1717 allows anonymous tips, photos and videos to be sent.
