Suspect identified after car chase across multiple counties


FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) – A traffic stop initiated a car chase across multiple counties on Wednesday.

The incident began in the town of McBee on Highway 151 in Chesterfield County when the driver refused to stop, according to Cpl. Lynsee Caroll with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s office. During the chase deputies noticed items being tossed out of the car, believed to be drugs and drug paraphernalia. 

The driver was chased into Darlington County and then Florence County, where the chase ended on East Old Marion Highway and Highway 76. 

Caroll said the driver is in custody and identified him as Sidney Charles Canty. Canty is charged with Failure to stop for blue lights, Simple possession of marijuana, Speeding, and No South Carolina Driver’s Licence. 

No injuries were reported.
